  • Dansk: Motivet er baseret på indtryk fra en rejse langs den norske skærgårdkyst ved Norskehavet fra Trondheim til Nordkap i 1832. Muligvis er det fra Bindalen med de Syv Søstre (set fra nord) i baggrunden - frit fortolket af kunstneren (meddelt af Marit Lange i e-mail 25. marts 2014).

  • Dansk: Værkdatering: Ca. 1847-50
  • Dansk: Marit Lange har i en e-mail (25. marts 2014) anført, at maleriet sandsynligvis er fra slutningen af 1840'erne, da der findes daterede malerier af Balke fra 1847, 48 og 49 med beslægtet kolorit.
  • Dansk: De gamle folder i papiret kan skyldes, at maleriet først sent er blevet opklæbet på lærred (påpeget af konserveringstekniker Pauline Lehmann Banke).
