Le style rajput, arrivé à maturité au XVIIème et début du XVIIIème siècle, est une synthèse entre le style hindou et l'art islamique moghol (ce dernier étant lui-même d'origine persane). Les alliances passées entre les clans rajputs et les moghols qui ont envahi l'Inde du nord à partir de 1526 (Bâbur est le fondateur de la dynastie) en sont à l'origine.

Le fort de Mehrangarh de Jodhpur, ville située dans l'État du Rajasthan (Inde), est l'un des plus imposants forts que compte l'Inde. Surnommé le fort magnifique, il surplombe la ville du haut de ses 122 mètres. À l'intérieur de celui-ci se trouve un palais richement décoré et agrémenté de nombreuses cours.
