Pendant watch on display as part of the "Jazz Age" exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States. Van Cleef & Arpels is a French jewelry, watch, and perfume company founded in 1896 by Alfred Van Cleef and his uncle, Salomon Arpels, in Paris. In 1925, a Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet won the grand prize at the Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes. This Cubist bracelet is made of platinum, diamonds, and pearls. It was designed by an unknown artist for Van Cleef and Arpels in 1927. It mimics the form and look of a chatelaine, a set of short chains attached to a woman's belt which were used for carrying keys or other items. The tiny slender watch (whose works were made by an unknown craftsman) sits inside the pendant hanging at the bottom.
