English: Penhill and Lavinia Fenton Tower This tower, now in ruins, was built as a summerhouse for Lavinia Fenton, the Duchess of Bolton who eventually married the third Duke. He fell in love with her when he saw a performance of John Gay's "The Beggar's Opera" in which she played the part of Polly Peacham, and the remains are affectionately known as "Polly Peacham's Tower". |
