English: The Theodore F. Wheeler House, 301 Main Street at Court Street, Penn Yan, New York, March 2022. Located directly across from historic Courthouse Square, this breathtakingly detailed two-and-a-half-story wood-framed residence is, in the words of Roger Reed of the Yates County Genealogical & Historical Society, "one of the finest examples of Queen Anne architecture in the county... filled with the important characteristics of the style, which include the irregular massing, the multiple porches and pediments, the combination of [brick and wood] building materials, the ornate woodwork on the porches, the stained-glass windows, the terra cotta ornamentation in the brick walls, and the heavy panelled chimney." A native of neighboring Schuyler County, Theodore F. Wheeler (1838-1905) was a longtime local druggist and businessman who purchased the plot at the northeast corner of Main and Court Streets in 1868, built this house in 1885, and lived in it until his death. In 1985, the house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing property to the Penn Yan Historic District.
