| Description |
English: Looking northwest from Savings Tower, at 20 stories the tallest building in Peoria in 1974. Interstate highway I-74 cuts through the photo. It is climbing the bluff from the Illinois River Valley, leading northwest toward my home. Going under oncoming lanes of I-74 and climbing the bluff between the I-74 lanes is Knoxville Avenue, Illinois Route 88 (now Illinois Route 40). The buildings of St. Francis Hospital are at the right. At the far left, Methodist Hospital. Large brown building at lower center is the Shrine Mosque (which later became Riverside Community Church). Bottom of the picture, the Voyager (which later became the Continental Regency, then Holiday Inn City Centre). |
