Summary

Description
English: The placard reads the following. "A fatal feast: The Perentie (Varanus giganteus) inhabits Australia's central and western deserts. At 2.5 metres, it is our largest lizard. Perenties are active predators but will also scavenge if the opportunity permits. We will never know whether this goanna captured the Echidna or chanced upon its carcass.Either way, the end result is the same. Unable to swallow or disgorge, this unfortunate lizard choked on its spiny meal. Locked together, predator and prey died, then mummified under the desert sun. This curious exhibit was acquired and displayed by the Queensland Museum prior to 1912."
