Zu sehen sind Mühlsteinhauer (Mühlsteinbrecher) bei der Arbeit. Im Steinbruch tätig waren nicht nur die Mühlsteinhauer-Meister und -Gesellen (oder Lehrjungen). Dazu kamen noch die Knechte und Helfer (Taglöhner). Das erklärt die vielen Personen auf dem Bild.
