English: Here's what you might find in the peritoneal fluid sediment when subjected to Wright staining-Red Blood Cells (RBCs), White Blood Cells (WBCs), Bacteria, and Other Cells: Besides red and white blood cells, other cell types, such as mesothelial cells (cells that line the peritoneal cavity) and macrophages, may be present in the peritoneal fluid sediment. The presence of mesothelial cells is normal, but their quantity and appearance can provide diagnostic information. Cellular Abnormalities In some cases- Abnormal cells, such as malignant cells from tumors or cancerous growths within the abdominal cavity, may be identified through this staining method.
Crystals- In certain medical conditions, crystals may be found in the peritoneal fluid sediment. These crystals could be indicative of conditions like gout or certain metabolic disorders. |
