Summary

Description We are now in the final half of my drive around Vientaine. I need to check out the main sights of the town before heading down to the airport post lunch. So this here is Pha That Luang, the very symbol of Laos. Pha That Luang, also known as the Great Stupa is a gold-covered large Buddhist stupa in the centre of Vientiane, Laos. Since its initial establishment, suggested to be in the 3rd century, the stupa has undergone several reconstructions as recently as the 1930s due to foreign invasions of the area. It is generally regarded as the most important national monument in Laos and a national symbol. We are now in the forecourt of this great stupa. A pair of tourists is seen here returning from the wat. (Vientaine, Laos/ Lao PDR, April 2014)
