Description A very common gamebird, the males are large and much more colourful than the females who are sandy brown. They are native to Asia however were introduced into much of Europe by the Romans and are thought to have arrived here in the UK with the Normans in the 11th century. They are widespread and found on farmland and woodland all over the UK. They eat seeds, berries, leaves as well as insects. During the breeding season, a single male may mate with lots of females, who will be left to raise her chicks on her own. They are often bred for Shooting.
