Summary
editDescriptionPhone Box Vandalized - geograph.org.uk - 957285.jpg |
English: Phone Box Vandalized This is the phone box outside the post office on Upholland Road, Billinge. I never thought of these as a site of geographical contestation but this one was vandalised at the weekend (you can see the bottom five panes of glass at the front have been broken and are lying on the floor inside). The owners of the post office want the box removed because they say they have seen this this box used for drugs drop off, during the day and night and used as a public convenience. Whilst some local residents say that its part of the character and heritage of the village and want to keep it. Then there's the technological argument - are these outdated now and do we really need them anymore? Anyway this little incident is forever recorded in the Geograph archive. It will be interesting to see what becomes of these iconic cultural symbols over the next ten or twenty years. |
