| Description |
English: Physical processes associated with the generation of sea spray aerosol (SSA). Breaking waves entrain air, which results in bubbles bursting at the air-sea interface, lofting jet and film drops into the atmosphere, which form SSA. A subset of SSA catalyzes cloud formation by acting as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) or ice nucleating particles (INPs). Primary marine aerosol formation via sea spray results in the transfer of marine microorganisms and organic matter to the atmosphere, which are transported over the ocean and deposited in a new location via processes such as wet deposition.
