Summary edit

Description This is the Pink Motel, a landmark along Tsali Boulevard (US Highway 441) on the Cherokee Reservation in North Carolina. Opened in 1953, the vintage motel was originally owned and operated by Lois Queen Farthing, whom decided to theme the establishment around the color Pink to differentiate it from other lodgings on the Qualla Boundary, which defines the interior decor, sheets, finishes, and exterior paint job on the building. The sign features the famous character Tinkerbell, whom was a favorite of Farthing’s daughter Lyna, giving the exterior a more whimsical appearance. The motel has changed little since it opened, and is a popular vintage mainstay along the main drag of the reservation, a relic of a fast-vanishing era, which sits at the southern gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
