Summary

edit
Description The two boards to the left are both of Pine tree wood (Pinus sylvestris) , and the one to the right is of spruce wood (Picea abies) . Typical differences are: 1. Pine has reddish hart wood and light sape wood and a rather distinct border between. 2. The knots in pine wood usually have stronger contrast than those of spruces, which use to be more "soft" colored. 3. In the spruce-wood, but never in the pine wood, there may be spread out small single knots (not shown in this photo). The picture is a detail from a floor and the width of each board is 11 cm.
