| Description |
English: Scientific name: Pinus sylvestris.
Common name: Scots Pine. This Scots pine was planted on an old farm field about 100 years ago. It grew to a height of around 90 ft (28 metre) and a spread of around 36 ft (11 metre).
Neither the wind had blown, nor had a crow spoken into the silence of the day, on Sunday the 14th of November 2015 at 11 o’clock, as the mature tree loudly crashed down, ending its living in the poor, dry soil of Tegel forest. Make it possible to take more than just a glimpse of the root system.
Here it is:
The developed horizontal root system has an average diameter of about 7 to 8 metre. But the taproot is only about 2 metre long. The weak formation of the taproot could be the cause of the overturn of the majestic Scots pine.
