Title
English: Pioneer Building, ca. 1916
Description
English: Many of the wooden buildings destroyed in the 1889 fire were replaced with large, modern brick buildings. The Pioneer Building was commissioned by Seattle businessman Henry Yesler and built between 1889 and 1891. Yesler built the building on the site of his original Seattle home. The brick and stone building housed a bank and offices, and it still stands at Pioneer Square.

This photo, taken around 1916, shows the Pioneer Building at the corner of First Avenue and James Street in Pioneer Square. Earthquakes weakened the tall tower above the front entrance, and the tower was removed sometime in the 1930s.
