Map of the trails and landmarks in the Rocky Mountain region used by the pioneers in the westward migration shows Oregon Trail, Overland Trail, and Mormon Trail routes. Lettering reads: "1. Buffaloes roamed the plains east of the Rocky Mountains. 2. Fording the upper crossing of the South Platte near Julesburg. 3. Chimney Rock region of the North Platte. 4. Fort Laramie established 1834 as a fur trading post. 5. Fremont crossing the Laramie plains in 1843. 6. Virginia Dale (Robbers Roost) Denver branch Overland Trail. 7. Deer Creek Station (Glenrock). 8. Platte Bridge (Fort Casper). 9. Red Butte arrival of Stuart and companions in 1812. 10. Sweetwater Station. Independence Rock. Devils Gate. 11. Transportation on the Oregon Trails. 12. Indians (Shoshonies [Shoshones]) of the South Pass region. 13. Fort Bridger, established 1843. 14. The Mormon hand cart immigration to Salt Lake. 15. Mormons entering Salt Lake Valley in 1847. 16. South Pass where the Oregon Trail divides into several branches. 17. 'Fort-niners' leave the Oregon Trail for California. 18. Fort Hall established by Wyeth in 1834. The Mormon and Overland Trails merge with the Oregon Trail at several points. Also: Pony Express riders and mountain men."
