Utbyggingen av Pir II endret elvemunningen til Nidelva.

Utdrag fra brosjyre fra Trondheim Havn, september 1953:

"Året 1952 ble en hektisk anleggstid. Utmudring av det nye elveløp, som ialt utgjorde ca 1,5 mill. kubikkmeter, foregikk stadig på flere skift med sandsuger og delvis begge muddermaskinene i drift. Det gamle elveløp ble sperret allerede i januar og fylling med dumpelektere tok til langs elvemoloen.

(...)

Den 30. juni kunne D/S «Mildrid» som første skip innvie det nye elveløp, og allerede dagen etter ble den første av de 4 senkekasser mot kai 7 nedsatt. Det gamle elveløp var helt sperret 5. juli."
