Français : Place Jacques-Cartier, Québec, 1928
« En 1847, l’on ouvre le marché Jacques-Cartier dans le quartier Saint-Roch. L’architecte Charles Baillairgé érige une première halle, en 1857, entre les rues Saint-Joseph et Saint-François. À l’étage, entre 1871 et 1911, la salle vibre au son des spectacles de théâtre, d’opérettes et de variétés offerts par des artistes français. Incendiée le 26 novembre 1911, elle est remplacée par un carré de pelouse avec, en son centre, une statue de Jacques-Cartier offerte par la ville de Saint-Malo en 1924. Entre les rues Saint-Joseph et Notre-Dame-des-Anges, l’on construit en 1866 une seconde halle. Démolie en 1912, pour y construire l’édifice de la Quebec Power, Le Merger, devenu, aujourd’hui, [un bureau d'arrondissement de la ville de Québec]. Au temps de sa splendeur, l’Hôtel Saint-Roch offre des services de qualité à la population, aux commerçants et aux voyageurs. En 1974, il tombe sous le pic des démolisseurs et, depuis 1983, la bibliothèque Gabrielle-Roy occupe son emplacement. » - quebecurbain.qc.ca
