Il n'a rien négligé pour le remplir. Des que le mariage de S. A. I. le prince Napoléon avec une princesse de Sardaigne devint, dans le piemont, loccasion d'actualités intéressantes, il n'hésita point a envoyer un de ses plus ingénieux dessinateurs dans ce pays et dans le nord de l'Italie, qui attiraient dès lors tous les regards. Nous avons puisé depuis dans les cartons que ce voyage lui a permis d'enrichir de tout ce que ces contrées pittoresques et célèbres offrent de plus curieux, pour les faire connaître à nos lecteurs dans tout ce qui peut, au milieu des éventualités et des sollicitudes quotidiennes, exciter le plus vivement l'intérêt; Gênes, Turin, Alexandrie, le cours de Tessin, ont offert tour à tour à notre illustration leur aspect général; les pompes intérieures de leurs palais, l'aspect de leurs places ou de leurs monuments. Nous ajoutons aujourd'hui à cette série une planchenouvelle : c'est la vue de la placed'armes qui s'étend devant la citadelle de Milan, siège habituel des exercices de l'armée autrichienne. Cela a été pour nous l'occasion d'obtenir d'un écrivain aimé du public et non moins connu par ses voyages dont il s'est fait l'intéressant conteur, que par ses œuvres purement littéraires, un article sur cette ville qui occupe une part si largedans l'histoire de l'Italie, dans celle de l'art et dans les préoccupations du moment. Non appena il matrimonio di S.A.S. il Principe Napoleone con una principessa di Sardegna divenne, in Piemonte, occasione di interessanti novità, egli non esitò a inviare in questo Paese e nel Nord Italia uno dei suoi più ingegnosi disegnatori, che attirò allora tutti gli occhi. Abbiamo da allora tratto dagli schemi che questo viaggio gli ha permesso di arricchire con tutto ciò che di più curioso offrono questi paesi pittoreschi e famosi, farli conoscere ai nostri lettori in tutto ciò che può, in mezzo alle contingenze e alle preoccupazioni quotidiane, suscitare il più vivo interesse; Genova, Torino, Alessandria, il corso del Ticino, hanno a loro volta offerto alla nostra illustrazione il loro aspetto generale; lo sfarzo interno dei loro palazzi, l'aspetto delle loro piazze o dei loro monumenti. Oggi aggiungiamo a questa serie una nuova tavola: si tratta della veduta della piazza d'armi che si estende davanti alla cittadella di Milano, luogo abituale delle esercitazioni dell'esercito austriaco. Questa è stata per noi l'occasione di ottenere da uno scrittore amato dal pubblico e conosciuto non meno per i suoi viaggi di cui divenne un interessante narratore, che per le sue opere prettamente letterarie, un articolo su questa città che occupa così gran parte nella cronaca storia d’Italia, in quella dell’arte e nelle preoccupazioni del momento. He left no stone unturned to fill it. As soon as the marriage of H.H.H. Prince Napoleon with a princess of Sardinia became, in Piedmont, the occasion for interesting news, he did not hesitate to send one of his most ingenious designers to this country and to the north of Italy , which then attracted all eyes.
