English: Plague Pits Valley, St Catherine's Hill nature reserve This valley is between St Catherine's Hill (right) and Twyford Down (left). At the end of this valley is the Itchen valley water meadows. This area is grazed by a flock of Hebridean Sheep to control scrub encroachment. The "Plague Pits" are mass graves, located further down the valley on the left, dating from around 1666. |
