Description
English: The purpose of this amulet is to protect its wearer from the sterile demon Lamashtu. She tends to torment young mothers and infants. This visible side shows part of the demon normally with lion head and raptor talons. She is holding a boat in her right hand, unless it is a knife, and what looks like a spindle in her left hand. She is wearing a tunic with two daggers at the waist. Above the demoness appear two suns, in front of her, two small combs, a dog behind her back and a scorpion below. The top of the plate is probably decorated with two fetuses. A horned snake climbs on its leg and in front of the other leg stands a dog. On the other side of the amulet is a mantra of sixteen lines describing the arrival of Lamashtu daughter of the god Anu and the order to stay away. This magic plaque contains the longest passage concerning the demon Lamashtu.
