English: Plas Penmynydd The site on which this 18th century hall stands played a pivotal role in Welsh and British history. This was the estate of one of Anglesey's most powerful families, y Tuduriaid (better known by the Anglicised form of their name - the Tudors) the ancestors of Henry VII, Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. http://www.anglesey-history.co.uk/places/penmynydd/index.html
The kitchen of the present hall as it was in the last century is shown on the following link http://www.tlysau.org.uk/item.php?lang=en&id=15503&t=1 The Calvinist firebrand William Prichard (1702-1773),was briefly a tenant here but a campaign of harassment against him and his family orchestrated by the vicar of nearby Llanffinan church drove them out. They then moved to Bodlew, Llanddaniel, SH4869, where again they suffered persecution and eviction. Learning of their plight William Bulkeley the squire-diarist of Brynddu, Llanfechell, SH3791, offered Prichard the tenancy of Clwchdernog where he lived unmolested from 1749 until his death in 1773. |
