English:

Bowling became a respectable and popular pastime for both men and women by the 1890s. Many American cities had exclusive bowling clubs as well as public alleys. The 40-room Pleasant Beach Hotel on Bainbridge Island had three bowling lanes, as well as a swimming pool, billiard room, and pavilion, earning it the nickname of "the Coney Island of Puget Sound."
