Description Dense pleural fibrosis seen here on the surface of the diaphragm is the end result of organization of intrapleural inflammatory exudate (empyema) most likely accompanying a remote episode of pneumonia. Similar-appearing fibrous pleural plaques may occur in association with asbestosis.
