Flowerheads are usually dense, contracted (sometimes open) panicles 2-6 cm long. Spikelets are 3-6-flowered, with copious long hairs on the lemmas. Parts of the spikelets may be replaced by miniature vegetative shoots, which can serve as vegetative propagules. Flowers in late winter and spring. |
