Summary edit
DescriptionPochin House, St Austell - geograph.org.uk - 1756844.jpg |
English: Pochin House, St Austell This modern development is based around the former Carclaze Mine on Carclaze Road. "Pochin House still features the original chimney from the Lovering Clay Dry." http://www.wainhomessouthwest.com/news/historiacl_links.htm . The name commemorates Henry Davis Pochin, an industrial chemist who invented both a process of clarifying rosin so that white soap could be produced, and also a cheap alternative to alumstone in the production of paper. The latter process required china clay, of which his company became one of Britain's three largest producers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Davis_Pochin |
