The female delays implantation of the fertilized egg, leading to a gestation period of 195-265 days. One to three cubs are born and remain with their mother for 28 months; Social Structure: Although polar bears are usually solitary, they will often congregate when feeding; Behavior: Unlike most bears, polar bears are not afraid of man and will even stalk them as if they were natural prey; Status: Vulnerable; Interesting Facts: Polar bears are the largest land carnivore.
