DescriptionPolish War Memorial - geograph.org.uk - 1509578.jpg |
English: Polish War Memorial Dedicated to 131 Wing who flew from nearby Chailey Airfield during World War Two. 131 Wing consisted of the following Spitfire fighter squadrons: 302 City of Poznan, 308 City of Krakow fighter squadron and 317 City of Wilno and were the only unit to fly from Chailey which was an Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) set up in readiness for the invasion of Europe. The memorial remembers the two casualties of the group and was unveiled in 2000 next to the Plough Inn at Plumpton Crossways. Although a mile or two down the road from the site of the airfield the original Plough Inn was demolished to make way for it and moved to its current site in 1943. |
