Untitled map published in Janssonius' Atlas Major in 1657. An earlier state, published by Janssonius in 1638, has the title "Polus Antarcticus" in a cartouche. Hemisphere-shaped map, centered at the South Pole at the Tropic of Capricorn, with the southern part of South America and Africa. Also includes unknown southern lands with notes and dates of discovery (New Zealand, Australia, New Guinea). Corners of the map decorated with scenes showing inhabitants, boats and a representation of a penguin. [Size: 432 x 494 mm (board). Hemisphere diameter: 435 mm; orle diameter: 419 mm]. 1 map. In a collection. Bound in mottled brown calfskin (17th century), spine with 7 bands, gilded iron in the bands. Carte sans titre publiée dans l'Atlas Major de Janssonius en 1657. Un état antérieur, publié par Janssonius en 1638, comporte le titre "Polus Antarcticus" dans un cartouche. Carte en forme d'hémisphère, centrée au Pôle Sud au Tropique du Capricorne, avec la partie sud de l'Amérique du Sud et de l'Afrique. Inclut également les terres australes inconnues avec des notes et les dates de découverte (Nouvelle-Zélande, Australie, Nouvelle Guinée). Angles de la carte décorés de scènes montrant des habitants, des bateaux et une représentation d'un pingouin. [Format : 432 x 494 mm (planche).
