Description

One of the players at the Beaver Cup Pond Hockey Tournament at Dow's Lake. Billed as Canada's largest Pond Hockey festival, it's timed to run from Feb 7-10, so it can coincide with the annual Winterlude celebrations. It's fast and exciting 4 on 4 hockey.

I got the X100S for street photography; and for me that includes urban panning shots. I haven't done too badly when practicing with bikes, cars and runners, so I thought I'd take a crack at something a little less predictable - hockey. As expected, it was certainly more challenging. A load of bad frames expended getting used to panning with the viewfinder on the X100S.

Observation on the X100S. Trying to get a slow enough shutter speed was challenging with the high luminosity from the harsh noon-day sun bouncing off all that nice snow/ice. I engaged the built in ND filter, put the camera in shutter priority mode with a speed of 1/30" and the camera automatically maxed the aperture at f/16. Even though the aperture was flashing red, indicating it was maxed out but would be inadequate exposure, it did just fine. Very impressed with that built in ND filter.
