Description Dr. Stan Kitchen, a scientist at the Rocky Mountain Research Station, cores a ponderosa tree to determine the age of the blaze. This tree dates to 1840+/-10years and covers the entire Old Spanish Trail period (1829-48. Dr. Kitchen has cored many trees in the canyon and most fall between 1795 and 1850.
