Summary
editDescriptionPony standing in Eyeworth Pond, New Forest - geograph.org.uk - 274030.jpg |
English: Pony standing in Eyeworth Pond, New Forest Many of the ponds in the New Forest have been artificially dug (or enhanced) in order to provide watering holes for the roaming commoners' stock. Eyeworth Pond was originally created to provide a head of water for the powder mill at Eyeworth Lodge, and in recent years it has been managed as a spot for water fowl. The steep, reinforced edges on the south and east sides of the pond make it impossible for ponies to drink there, but on the northwest side (shown here), where the pond meets the Eyeworth Wood, it is possible for ponies to paddle in and drink. |
