Die Porta Nigra, das schwarze Tor wurde im Jahre 180 v. Chr durch die Römer erbaut. Es war Nordtor der Stadtbefestigung von Augusta Treverorum (Trier). Im Mittelalter wurde das Tor zur Kirche umgebaut. Napoleon verfügte 1804 den Rückbau der Kirche, und die Rekonstruktion der Porta Nigra. Vollendet wurde dieser Rückbau 1815 durch Preußen. Die Porta Nigra ist ein geschütztes Kulturgut und gehört zum UNESCO-Welterbe römische Baudenkmäler. The Porta Nigra, the Black Gate was built in 180 BC by the Romans. It was nord gate of the fortification of Augusta Treverorum (Trier). In the Middle Ages, the gate was converted into a church. 1804 Napoleon decreed the demolition of the church, and the reconstruction of the Porta Nigra. This restoration was completed in 1815 by Prussia. The Porta Nigra is a protected cultural heritage and is a UNESCO World Heritage Roman monuments. |
