DescriptionPortage Glacier, Alaska (5426404508).jpg |
Like most glaciers in Alaska, Portage Glacier has been steadily retreating for more than 100 years. Just seven or eight years before this photo was taken, the rock face in the middle was just barely visible. Now, large sections of the glacier's face don't even reach the water of Portage Lake. It won't be long until the glacier pulls up into the hills completely, leaving behind a scoured face of bedrock. winterbear.com |
