Description
Deutsch: Mainz, Bischofsplatz: Torbogen aus Rotsandstein mit dem Wappen des Domkustos Franz Georg von Schönborn. Tor zum Palais der Bischöfe, errichtet 1663-1666 als Domkustodie, ab 1802 erst wohnte hier der Mainzer Bischof. Das Gebäude wurde 1942 schwer beschädigt und schließlich 1962 zugunsten eines Parkhausbaus abgerissen.
English: Mainz, Bischofsplatz: archway of sandstone from the Early Triassic epoch, showing the arms of capitular Franz Georg von Schönborn. Erected 1663-1666 as capitulars house, since 1802 the bishop of Mainz lived there. The building had been heavily damaged during the air raides of 1942 and was turned down in 1962 in favour of a multi-storey car park of a department store.
