Français : Gros plan Porte du Soubeyran à Marvejols, Lozère.
Celle-ci consiste en 2 tours de forte épaisseur, accolées. Leur origine remonte au XIVe s. lorsque la population, lassée des exactions des bandes de Routiers (« Grandes Compagnies »), décide de fortifier sa cité. Devenue foyer huguenot (protestant), la capitale du Gévaudan finit assiégée au XVIe par les troupes de la Ligue. L’enceinte est démantelée dans la foulée. La porte du Soubeyran commandait l’accès nord de la ville. Faisant écho à celle de Chanelles, au sud, à laquelle elle ressemble un peu. A ceci près que cette dernière est habitée et donc, non visitable ! Marvejols possède une dernière grande porte, du Théron. |
