DescriptionPorthmadog (WHR) Station - geograph.org.uk - 1472352.jpg |
English: Porthmadog (WHR) Station The history of railways at Porthmadog has always been complicated, and that continues to be the case today. This narrow gauge station was built adjacent to the National Rail route through the town, intended as the southern terminus of the restored Welsh Highland Railway. In the event, the reopened line will run to the Ffestiniog Railway's Harbour station (as it did during the original brief period of passenger operation between 1923 and 1936). This leaves this station at the end of a short branch and it is not clear if through trains to Caernarfon will ever run from here - the two organisations responsible are apparently in dispute over this issue. |
