Summary edit

Description
English: Portmeirion A photograph demonstating some of the eclectic piling-up of detail in Clough Williams-Ellis' fantasy holiday village. In the centre, The Chantry (1937-8), built as a studio for Augustus John, who never used it. Below it, one of the ogee cupolas of the 1760s rococo-gothic colonnade brought from Arnos Court, Bristol in 1958-9, the pinnacles of the Gothick Pavilion rescued in the early 1960s from Nerquis Hall near Wrexham, and Rysbrack's statue of Freya brought from Stowe, Buckinghamshire in the 1920s. The green onion dome on the right was built in 1962-3 to hide a boiler chimney.
