Summary edit
DescriptionPossible bomb crater, Hen's Wood near Marlborough - geograph.org.uk - 407872.jpg |
English: Possible bomb crater, Hen's Wood near Marlborough It doesn't show up as well in the image as it did when I was there but this hole in the ground, which is about 4 metres diameter and 1 metre deep, looks suspiciously like a bomb crater. Despite Savernake Forest being a huge ordnance depot during the war (see SU2265 and SU2065 for more information) it was not seriously attacked. However, I have read that German bombers did, on occasion, jettison bombs in this area when making their way back to their continental bases. |
