English: Post Office, Longhorsley The plaque on the wall at Longhorsley village Post Office relates to Emily Wilding Davison. On the morning of 4th June 1913, Emily left her mother's house (being the present day Post Office) to travel to the Epsom Derby. Here she was knocked down by the King's horse, Anmar, when she tried to pin the union colours, Green White and Violet for Give Women Votes for the Suffragettes onto the horse. Emily died 4 days later and is buried in Morpeth cemetery approximately 5 miles from this marker. |
