Summary edit

Description
English: Potato harvest in Trumpery Lane, South Norfolk, England. – The potato shaws were sprayed with sulphuric acid a couple of weeks ago. As a result they shrivel and die, making the mechanical lifting of the tubers much easier. Desiccation also induces the plant to move more resources to the tubers, resulting in a burst of growth prior to harvesting. Potato harvest is teamwork. The implement attached to the front of the tractor pulling the harvester uproots the potatoes which are then picked up by the harvester, cleaning them of the adhering soil on their way onto the conveyor belt. The conveyor belt transports the tubers upwards and onto a trailer that is pulled by a second tractor that drives parallel with, but somewhat behind, the first. As the trailer is filling up with harvested potatoes (1539463) a third tractor with an empty trailer appears in the field (1539468). As soon as the trailer is full to capacity the third tractor will drive up whilst the second tractor pulls away from the harvester, to take its place without the workers stopping. The full load is then transported to the farm (1539471) and as soon as the trailer is empty it will be returned to the field. This process continues until the whole crop is harvested.
