Do not remove this tag until the deletion nomination is closed. Reason for the nomination: A transcription of the contents of this statue was deleted at https://en.wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=Wikisource:Copyright_discussions&oldid=13976467#Index:Potter's_field_monument_at_City_Honors_High_School,_Buffalo,_New_York_-_20200707.jpg as potential copyright infringement. I used to believe that the statements in the statue constitute text too simplistic to garner its own copyright, but upon checking verbatim Google searches for "who were buried here and removed" and "we remember and honor the citizens of", with the searches only relating to results for this one statue, I am no longer inclined to believe it's as generic as I once thought. I think the image needs to be deleted, because the statue's text constitutes copyright infringement (albeit just barely). For anyone who wants to bring in the de minimis argument, and say the text is unimportant to the overall image, keep in mind that the entire image you'd look at a statue like this is to read it, so the text is a central focus of the image.

Summary edit
DescriptionPotter's field monument at City Honors High School, Buffalo, New York - 20200707.jpg |
English: The corner of Best Street and Fosdick Avenue, at the northwest corner of the City Honors High School Complex, is where this monument to the "some 8,000-10,000 unknown souls buried in the Potter's Field on this site" is found. The indigent cemetery was extant until 1884, when the city hired landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted to design a park on the site, which itself only lasted ten years before the predecessor to the present-day school was built on the site. The monument seen here was dedicated in 2012, several years after more human remains were unearthed on the site during construction of an annex on the school. |
