According to Answers.com, a rhyton is "a hornlike drinking vessel of ancient times, often having a pointed end shaped like an animal or animal's head."

That the vessel cannot be put down without spilling its contents suggests that drinking games were well established in antiquity,

Having seen a number of highly sophisticated and realistic gold rhytons in other museums in Iran, I enjoyed the playful, cartoon-like quality of the bovine head at the base of this vessel.
