After several consecutive days of warmer weather, I decided to walk ledges on a south-facing dolomite glade with a friend to see if any Eastern Coachwhips might be out sunning early in the season. Unfortunately cloud cover obscured the sun in the afternoon, suppressing surface temps considerably. Nonetheless, under a flat rock in a cedar thicket flanked by grass was this beautiful snake. After pictures it was released.
