Lake Street was closed from Portland Avenue to 2nd Avenue for Mexican Independence Day celebrations. On September 16, 1810, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla gave a speech urging people to to revolt against Spanish rule. The anniversary of that speech, known as The Cry of Dolores (Grito de Dolores), is now celebrated as Mexican Independence Day.
