Description
English: President Lincoln's body would travel through 180 cities and seven states before reaching its final resting place a few weeks later. The funeral procession began April 21, 1865 on the Lincoln Special, the funeral train that would carry him to Springfield, Illinois for burial on May 4. Departing Washington's Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Depot, the train made stops in Baltimore and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where a hearse then carried the coffin to the state House of Representatives where it was open for viewing later that night. Willie Lincoln's coffin was also aboard, on its way to be buried with his father.
