English: COUNTRY'S TALLEST AGAS-AGAS BRIGDE IN SOGOD, SOUTHERN LEYTE -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo boards a topdown vehicle as she leads the ceremonial drive thru during the inauguration of the Agas-Agas Bridge Sunday (Aug.10, 2009). The country’s tallest bridge -- the 85-meter tall Agas-Agas Bridge. The bridge project, which started construction in 2006, was undertaken by the Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co., Ltd., and is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency - Official Development Assistance under the second phase of the Philippine-Japan Friendship Highway Rehabilitation Project. The Agas-Agas Bridge would provide a safe connection from the Daang Maharlika to Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, like the ones existing in Matnog, Sorsogon, Allen, Samar, and the Liloan Ferry Terminal, in Southern Leyte connecting all the way to Surigao. Also in the photo are Japanese Ambassador Makoto Katsura, Southern Leyte Governor Damian Mercado and DPWH Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. in Barangay Kahupian in the Municipality of Sogod Southern Leyte. |
