Description
English: This graph shows the a-symmetric pressure distribution acting between two steadily rolling viscoelastic cylinders. The pressures and also the contact area are shifted to the right (inlet) compared to the symmetrical distribution for elastic contact. This is because viscoelastic material does not respond instantaneously. At the inlet additional pressure is needed to avoid interpenetration of the two surfaces. At the outlet it takes a while for the material to relax back to its original form such that less pressure is needed there.
